The demons manipulating Aurelia's childhood trauma and twisting her into an unrecognizable monster seems plausible. But, wouldn't that make the First Divine Beasts prophecy be self fulfilling? I doubt Aurelia would have experienced much hardship in the monestary otherwise, so perhaps deep down she is morally bankrupt.

Really? You're complaining about an evil mass murderer not getting pats on the head? Lucian is entirely justified in his fear and revulsion of her. There's nothing toxic about what he's doing. In fact, the way he's speaking to her is necessary exactly because she's a self-deceiving monster. He's shattering all her delusions, forcing her to confront reality repeatedly. Now, because he managed to keep her from actual carrying out the evil she was intending, I'm hoping that she does learn to regret her actions and genuinely repent of her past and stive to be noble and good. But giving her nice words and banal gestures is NOT how that is going to happen. As Lucian said, she had love and kindness, and wllfully decided to abuse that trust for her monstrous selfish evil. This has been some some the best dialogue and complex ethical/character driven interactions of the story so far, qnd the author is doing a phenomenal job exploring these dynamics. You should praise good writing, not bury it under your biases.

This is a very toxic way to write two characters interacting. The constant contempt and disdain while the other party is essentially a slave forced to take it, makes for something I wouldn't want to read for very long. I'm hoping you either correct the interactions or move on from the character sooner rather than another 20-30 chapters of this kind of dialogue.

Even more than that, assuming everything isn't an act, she also already seems kind of attached to him? Maybe all of this really is her just trying to gradually make him treat her better and depend on her more, so she can stab him in the back. But if its not an act, and she genuinely wants him to like and respect her, that's also very weird? Lucian barged into her life, manipulated her into destroying everything she's ever worked towards, took her powers from her, has been using her as a weapon, and has been treating her like shit from day one. Ignoring the fact that she deserved all that, she shouldn't be feeling anything but hate, fear, and resentment towards Lucian. But instead, she's trying to convince him that she can be a better person, and promising to do whatever he wants as long as he treats her a little nicer? I'm pretty sure that Aurelia is a fully grown woman. But her attitude is closer to that of a child with attachment issues. I can guess at a couple reasons that might explain it, if this isn't an act. Maybe this is just the kind of person she is. Maybe it was part of the first emperor's plan to sculpt her personality like this, to make her easier to control. If she was desperate for the first emperor's approval, she would work harder and be more loyal. And now Lucian has accidentally taken the emperor's spot as the object of Aurelia's dedication. Or maybe losing that demonic influence has messed with Aurelia's mind. She's had it her whole life, and now it's just gone. She's probably trying to sort out which parts of her were her own thoughts and feelings, and what was just demon whispers. The thing might have even stunted her emotional development. And the extra pressure from Lucian is just causing her to fold. Regardless of all that, Lucian hasn't even considered that this is anything but an attempt to manipulate him. Which means the there's a legitimate chance that he's unknowingly manipulating a woman with mental issues into developing a dependence on him, and then been using her like a tool. I think that's bad, regardless of the circumstances. If this is what is happening, I wonder how he'll react once he realizes what he's been doing?

Hmm... You know, I never really considered it due to her being evil. But if Aurelia DOES eventually, truly reform... Maybe she ends up as the love interest? Might be an interesting enemies to lovers plot. Would have to be an extremely slow burn due to his animosity and (fully warranted)distrust, but I think it might be cool. Things will have to be shaken up before any real developments though, considering the current warden-prisoner/slave situation going on. Nemo doesn't strike me as the kind of author to try exploring potentially toxic power dynamics lmao.

Gopard

we don't know yet at all... I mean Gorm was reformed in the other Novel... as where many many outright "very evil chars" I think without knowing it Lucian just actually truly might have taken the first step on thr long long path to let Aurelia reform herself... or I'm just being to optimistic.. but well if you don't read fiction hoping that everyone has a potential chance to change their ways what's the point? xD

I agree

I love an earned power-up. Hope this helps with his build.

Thanks!

So, I don't think that eye is coming back out. Which means this is a one time only ritual, and that the first emperor only ever got this powerup in some bad end cutscene (assuming that stealing the ritual from the emperor is required to beat the game, and that it isn't optional content to get a better ending). Lucian probably only has a basic understanding of how this particular vision is going to work, and what will come after it. Maybe bringing this ancient power back into the modern day will have some unexpected consequences. Maybe something else from the past will get carried back with it, or its presence will awaken some other ancient forces, or maybe it will just do things to Lucian that he never expected it to. I was originally thinking that the goal might have been something like lost ancient knowledge. Maybe some super powerful spellcraft, or some kind of divine language. I wonder how Lucian is going to carry the formless essence out of the vision? It's interesting that Lucian is uniquely positioned to take advantage of it. Does he just mean that he knows the best locations, objects, and techniques for it? Or that it goes well with his physique? My best guess is that it might work best with very high affinities, like his 98%.

Aurelia > Miriam - Miriam would be too obvious.

Armo

The hells are Hallownest frfr. Or maybe the wastes outside a major kingdom.

WarStrider72

I guess Aurelia is the comedic effect for the novel?

AddnSubtract

It’s always one chapter per weekday at midnight PST, so five days a week.

no

This is too addicting, dear author what are the odds tomorrow comes another chapter? Or do we have to wait for the next week. Btw respect for so many good chapters in a week ✋😔🤚

Gil

There's something about being shat on that hard that can make you reevaluate. Not change, but reevaluate. I think it makes sense for her to throw her hat in with the good guys just for the benefits at this point.

AddnSubtract

Can’t wait to see Lucian’s magic girl transformation!

Wurger

Still not sure about Aurelia. I love a good redemption tale but I'm thinking the author might pull a fast one on us.

Thaabit Rivertree

This is surprisingly and uniquely satisfying, how he's breaking the pattern and making some unexpected gains. Great chap. Hopefully he gets what he wanted (and is able to benefit from it)
