Now, the Formless Essence. Seems I was wrong about there being no holy water. I guess my first question is, what happened to affinities? Lucian used to have a 98% holy affinity. The in game mechanics for Formless Essence imply that this should still matter. But I think that all signs point to affinities not working like that for Lucian, anymore. According to Lucian's own observations, all his magical affinities, and even his internal energy, were melted down into the Formless Essence. There isn't any holy magic in the Formless Essence, so how could Lucian's holy affinity still play any part in determining the strength of his Formless Essence? Perhaps the strength of spells cast with Formless Essence is now determined by skill, and Lucian can cast any spell as if he had a 100% affinity in the element, if he is good enough. Or perhaps now the Formless Essence has its own, new type of affinity. If that's the case, maybe because Lucian took in the Essence with a 98% holy affinity, it has come out weaker than it would have if someone with a 100% affinity took it in. And who knows how one could ever raise that affinity, should it exist. On the potentially bright side, Lucian may no longer need any of those opportunities to raise his own affinities. He can probably pass them off to his friends. Maybe even give Aurelia some opportunities to raise her own holy affinity, to make her a stronger attack dog.

A whole lot to talk about in this chapter. First, the upcoming reunion. No way Denzel accepts any lie Lucian gives. He knows too much. He knows Lucian has been working with the monastics, that he was deeply involved with killing Metterand, and that he had unique insight on what was going on in the empire. Belcourt appears, and Lucian runs off with Miriam? No way it isn't all connected. Rowan is also quite perceptive. He's the most likely to see through any lie Lucian gives, and if he catches Denzel trying to get the full story out of Lucian, he might demand to be let into the conspiracy, too.

This is the weirdest A-team ever and I love it

Thank you for the chapter! Great to see your work taking off again! :D Really loved Lucian’s interaction with Aurelia here. I’d love to see some more character work in genral. What you’re doing in RA in terms of character interaction and development is way stronger in many ways than what you did in JaS, but the needs of the plot and the story’s nature as a progression fantasy mean that space for extensive character work is fundamentally limited. Or maybe I’m just spoiled by Super Supportive, which has too much of it… You know, someday, I hope to get to read a Nemo fic that doesn’t involve isekai or LitRPG. I know it’s the magic word on RR, and I think you mentioned that writing a popular story is quite important for you right now, but I think you could do a really good straight fantasy story, especially if it was self-contained and relatively short. I hope your journey to a sustainable writing career lets you write a story like that at some point in the future. I’d love to read it.

The comedy here always brings me tears of joy. I hope it never fades.

Politican: I sense a distrubance in the force... someone was just named the best liar in the whole wide world.

Not gonna lie, I hope this arc wasn't a major set back for Lucian and that he'll continue as part of the student ambassadors & take part in the main game missions. Is it shallow of me that I prefer a more straightforward progression instead of getting a more bittersweet story with significant consequences? I suppose I just enjoy the current dynamic Lucian has with his peers like Rowan and Helen that I hope it won't be compromised by what occured right now in the story & that we'll get more of that. Speaking of which, the social aspects of the story—the drama, intrigue, dialogue & politics is what I'm looking forward to the most. The action is fun, but the real fruit is seeing the fallout of the MC's doings. We still need to see the criminal trial, forge bonds with his teammates & redeem himself publicly.

"Aurelia, your ~approval~ sympathy fills me with shame." Great scene, it didn't take the coach approach off the table but it addressed why he doesn't just take the easy/logical way out. "As expected of one with such pure holy affinity." You've done such a great job turning this into the perfect 'fuck you' between them lmao

Damn, im rarely the first one here anymore. Glad to see your work taking off again! Ty for the chapter 🫡
