Super NES Works #026: Super Castlevania IV
🕑 Added 2018-10-24 18:50:24 +0000 UTC Not a hoax! Not a dream! Not an imaginary story! Nope, it's just me and some more Castlevania history. My one regret with this episode is that the complete playthrough I recorded a couple of weeks ago bizarrely failed to capture the audio, so I had to rush to capture replacement footage and didn't have time in my schedule to record the final stage. Oh well. Also, for some reason I mispronounced "arpeggio," and I'm not sure what that's about.
Uh, but the point is, here's a Super Castlevania IV video. Yep.

I'm working on a script right now about Castlevania IV for my own podcast, so this video is very timely and useful as a counterpoint to some of my own praise for the game. This is exactly why I am a Patron of both you individually and Retronauts.

Nuanced opinions like this are why I’m a patron of Jeremy. Such a great job of taking a well-loved game, and breaking down the good and the bad. When I was a kid, the idea of grappling brought me into this game, and I think the atmosphere of those first 3 levels made more of a lasting impression on me than almost any SNES game. Revisiting as an adult, it definitely lacks something challenge-wise compared to other Classicvanias, and the grappling was always a huge letdown, but that soundtrack!!!
