🕑 Added 2023-08-02 12:05:44 +0000 UTCSo long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye... yes, this brief interlude of flirtation with Metroidvania Works has come to a conclusion as we reach the end of the 1980s with a pair of stone-cold classics: Gargoyle's Quest and Metal Gear 2. I'll return to Metroidvania Works in, uh... a while. After I'm done with NES Works 1989. And Segaiden 1989. And all that other ’89 stuff....
For now, though, wipe that errant tear. Good things are on the horizon. And, hey—these two games are so, so good.

Gargoyle's Quest was my most played Game Boy game after Tetris, I loved everything about it. I was surprised how well it held up (excluding dialog) when I replayed all the way through it via Switch Online. All the thoughtful consideration of the system's limitations you mention here just make it all the more impressive.
