#1251 - Pencils - Announcement
🕑 Added 2025-02-03 11:38:52 +0000 UTCWell, this was supposed to be the finished, full strip, but since I wound up involuntarily locked in the psyche ward of my local hospital again and promptly came home sick as fuck, that didn't happen, but at least I got the goddamn pencils done.
So now for yet more real talk. I am not well. And the current storyline of C6 has become too much for me to handle. It's too dark, no doubt a reflection of my ailing mental state these last several years and it's become a joyless exercise in fighting against my creative desires week to week. I can't handle it as I am now ,and to be honest, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to again. This isn't a new topic for me, as I've whined and bitched about this for years, but the difference is that I'm no longer able to keep powering through. Mainline C6 is going on indefinite hiatus as of this post.
In lieu of mainline C6 I'm going to work on other projects and continue with my one-off strips with the C6 girls that focus on sexy, silly and fun. Things like the CollarV strips, or the reboot, or d6. And I will begin working on them today, so I'll start putting them out this week. I'm sorry to those of you who are disappointed at my decision here. I haven't made it lightly and it's one I've tried to put off for years, but it's either this or I just quit making comics altogether, because I simply cannot handle mainline C6 at present. To those of you who will be stepping off here, I thank you for staying on board this long and you have my heartfelt thanks for sticking around, despite it all. To those who'll continue along with me, well, I hope the return to a focus on sexy rubber funtimes will bring a bit of sunshine to a world that's gone horribly dark in recent times.

Oh yeah, that decision is totally understandable there Fiona! Feel perfectly free now to step back from the mainline C6 universe for the foreseeable future then, if you've been struggling so much with things... Both your health and general happiness is what's most important to all of us, okay? We're here to support you, no matter what you decide upon.

I've expressed my concerns about this in the past. Flipping back and forth between the story that was emotionally difficult to do and the ones that were supposed to help you rejuvenate and heal wasn't working. Making the main C6 story officially off limits to yourself is a good idea. Work on anything except that. If something pops into your head for it, make a note of it on your computer. Beyond that, you let it sit and don't touch it until you get to a place in your life where you're much better able to handle it. By that, I don't mean, "Today, I feel good so I think I can work on it." It has to be a long enough time and enough personal progress made that it won't cause a relapse. Remember the love, fun and caring between a mistress and her personal slaves. A relationship with trust at its heart. The times when it gets silly and goofy. The quiet times when they're comfortable just being in each other's company, regardless of what they may or may not be wearing just then. I'm among the people that want to see the range of what you can offer. I'm not here because I only want to see the main C6 story. I like variety. I like seeing the different versions of these characters in other settings and other roles

I think it is time to retire the C6 story. At some point in the future, you can write out what happens to finish it off. Not draw it, just a text summary.

I still vaguely remember when at the end of the first arc Fiona said "wow that was darker than I intended, it isn't good for my health; now that the Big Bad's defeated let's make the next storyline fluffy and fun." And a few strips later the "fluffy and fun" storyline had been hijacked by the grimderp. Not surprising that writing it Does Not Spark Joy™. Your plan to prioritise projects that will be as fun for you as they are for us has our full support.

I was concerned about this story line when you first announced it, because its dark and cruel in so many ways. Seeing someone be bound to act opposite their true nature (be it by society or a comic book villain) is difficult in a lot of ways but I love your art style, the deep connections your main characters have and even the first set of villains had with each other. So, I can't fault you for wanting to give up this segment of the first draft of C6. Yes, first draft, this isn't something that's getting finished, worked on the whole story with an editor and revised. This has all been first draft. And it is 100% ok as an author to go back and say, ya know this rabbit hole doesn't work. Set it aside in a "didn't use" file and starting anew back where you were happy with it. So take a few weeks to do some silly fluff while you decide what would make YOU happy to work on, because really, that's what matters.
