Bonus video! Barbara Walters Asks if Gays are "Swishy"
🕑 Added 2022-06-05 17:00:05 +0000 UTCInquiring minds want to know: Is that big gay guy on Modern Family "swishy"? Is that okay to say? Better ask a heterosexual. A clip of her asking a very weird question (and also "what's it like to be homosexual?") await you in this week's bonus video! Also, the time Jesse Tyler Ferguson totally baffled an AP reporter by using the phrase "gay for pay," and the story of a tricky little maneuver Jesse used to get the role he wanted on Modern Family.

Haha I 100% heard that in Cheri Oteri's voice

I really enjoyed this wrap, and the hilarious 'gay for pay' moment. (I wasn't sure, BW kind of makes me cringe for some reason) Warm wishes this Pride month, sir!

((reads that in memorable Cheri Oteri BW impression)) Yes!

I know this is a cliche, but "That Harvey Fierstein expression is a whole mood!".... It *really* is a WHOLE mood all-in-one! ;)

I ended up watching a lot of 20/20 as a kid because it was on after the TGIF lineup, and whenever she interviewed a female celebrity she seemed to always ask "are you bisexual?" Even in 1999, that seemed deeply weird. Though I may just be remembering her interviews with Anne Heche and Angelina Jolie. Unrelated: Harvey Fierstein was shockingly handsome in his youth.

Barbara Walters is famous for suddenly turning mean/vicious during an interview. Many people (like Angela Lansbury) have said that she was friends with them prior to their interview, but once in it Barbara would blindside them with a painful question clearly to get an emotional response. It's like the interview version of a jump scare. SNL's Cheri Oteri often portrayed Barbara Walters (a daunting feat after Gilda Radner's iconic "Baba Wawa" character) and said she figured out Barbara's trick to interviews- three compliments and then go for the kill. "You're beautiful, you're rich, you're a talented actress...so why the porn?"
