Gotta love Vice-Cap Hoshina! XD It was subtly hinted/mentioned in an episode (ep10) during one of Vice-Cap Hoshina's backstory flashbacks, where his father talks with him that 200 years ago Hoshina would be considered a genius but the era of blades has passed and told him to give up joining the Defense Force. Hoshina’s old superiors also say that more and more giant Kaiju are appearing each year. His family's blade techniques don’t work well against the big ones, and guns are enough to deal with the small ones. This shows that Kaiju have been around for a long time, and they keep getting bigger and more common every year.
