Happy Thanksgiving: Surprising Storage Results with CO2 and other thoughts

In this brief video (above) I talk about the recent community testing events (TTBVI remains the undisputed potency champion, now with NINE consecutive 1st place wins). There are some new insights gleaned from the latest testing data that I review including the Colorado Psychedelic Cup and the Denver Shroom Cup. The video then continues with some unexpected test results on a 20 month old sample of TTBVI stored in carbon dioxide (CO2) 👉🏻 the best preservation of psilocybin that I've ever seen! Was this a fluke? Is it reproducible? Only time will tell, but it does seem that CO2 is a good method of storage regardless, and we may need to revisit the whole fruit body vs. powdered debate in light of this new data.

I mention toward the end of the video that there have been some interesting developments with regard to mimosa bark vendors (this bark is highly desirable due to its high DMT alkaloid content and low plant oils which results in high purity extracts). I have heard from an industry source that recently customs has been seizing large bark imports and holding them until the importer can provide proper documentation. This has already resulted in one long time major vendor completely exiting the market (following a big financial loss). However certain vendors DO have proper documentation and licenses and have actually been able to succeed in having customs release their shipments (after long delays). I suppose in some ways this is similar to Home Depot being allowed to sell mescaline containing San Pedro Cacti:

Now they have an even bigger supply than before, and it has already been independently tested by multiple sources and proven to be of very high quality, with over 2% alkaloid content (people are actually reporting 3%). You really only need 100g but this place has pretty steep discounts on higher quantities and the bark has essentially unlimited storage life with no loss of the DMT (store in sealed glass jars with CO2 or Argon and it will last forever). They will probably sell out again like the last time, so even if you have no immediate plans to research DMT, it may be a good idea to lock down your bark now while you can. If you have no idea what DMT is, search my FAQ for "DMT" as I have produced quite a lot of content on it including a very detailed TEK on how to extract it (it's faster and arguably easier than growing mushrooms). The DMT visuals are exquisite and onset nearly instant, there is nothing else quite like it really although to be fair it can also be a bit too extreme and intense for some people. On the other hand, a carefully weighed (i.e. use a gem scale) low dose, especially combined with harmalas, is surprisingly gentle, beautiful, and relaxing -- people rarely ever talk about that use case.

Hi. Jumping in on this old thread, I have a question about CO2 vs nitrogen. Nitrogen is a better storage gas than CO2 according to the cannabis folks — and N2 cartridges with apparent similarities in size and shape can be bought on Amazon for $14 for 10/ea. Wouldn’t this be a better way to store mushrooms to retain potency?

After doing some really great research, which do you use? I use a vac sealer, silicon pak, BUT shoot Argon in to the bag before sealing. Is this overkill because all the Argon gets sucked out before sealing. Maybe slows oxidation?? What do you all think?

I've been vacuum sealing well dried (> 18 hrs at 140 F in the dryer) with a Silica Gel Desiccant Packs and a Oxygen Absorber pack and storing in the freezer. I've opened 1 year old packs and as best I can feel, they are full strength. I've got no way to measure though.

Interestingly, Altitude Consulting found that Oxygen absorbers do not do a good job, possibly because they contain water which contributes to the break down of psilocybin. They are also very slow acting, it can take weeks for them to actually remove the oxygen.
