I think for our games I might run some sword and board builds. But just landing 3 hits with a rapier for an 11th level fighter (1d8 +7)is an average of 34.5 and a max of 45 DPR.

I think if damage is a big deal, grabbing fey touched and hunter's mark is huge. It's verbal and force damage and a bonus action. Save it for the big fight once a day. Get misty step with it. Great on any class. I also think rapier might be best due to vex and advantage possibly. Toss in shield master and inspiration and you might hit in the 80% range or more consistently

I do wish the Fighter did better with one handed weapons - obviously outside of the shillelagh champion nightmare build.
