First off, I do not like the direction of this subclass. I think it steps on the Drakewarden Ranger and Ranger identity in a way. Also the Purple Drake is weaker that the Beast Master's and Drakewarden's pets. If they keep the dragon thing, then I agree it should be CHA based to differentiate from the Psi Warrior and Eldritch Knight subclasses in the PHB. The old PDK was a commander type, just a bad one. Why can't they go all in being a commander/warlord type? Lvl 3: "Knightly Envoy" (ribbon) keep and add a skill like Persuasion (incorporating old PDK lvl 7 feature) Lvl 3: "Rallying Cry" - when you use Second Wind you give CHA-mod creatures Fighter Level is Temp HP within 60 ft Lvl 7: "Knightly Command" - you can forgo one of any of your attacks to allow an ally within 60 ft to make an attack instead with their reaction (not the BM's commander strike which add dice but limited usage) Lvl 10: "Rallying Surge" - allow the allies to use both move without Opps and attack option for their reaction Lvl 15: "Bulwark" - like old PDK with new Indomitable that added fighter level to the ally's reroll, maybe even CHA-mod allies? Lvl 18: "Heroic Commander" - on an attack/skill can give ally a reroll like Heroic Inspiration but even on non fails but uses your reaction Just my thoughts based on the lore of the PDK and the lacking previous version in SCAG.

I couldn't have said it better. The more INT subclass, the more satisfied I will be. It's kind of silly that the stat was so unused.

It’s a little bit awkward, but INT-based Fighters and Rogues help balance things out such that INT matters for more builds. Assuming we want the mental ability scores to all be equally valuable: basing an ability on INT, when given the choice, helps prevent a situation where many parties have player characters who all chose to dump intelligence. Despite current developments, I don’t think a party that where all the characters dump intelligence should be succeeding so easily

I was thinking it might be because charisma and wisdom both have classes that have easier access to mental stat based attacks. Shillegigh (no, I never spell that right) on wisdom and blade pact on warlock are both, if i remember right, available at lvl 1, making the dip a relatively easy way to make this class SAD. That may be the balance point (because as far as I know only intelligence way to do this on multiple attacks is bladesinger at lvl 3).

I like more INT Sub/class options. INT in 2014 less usefull and some more options in 2024 is nice.

Wotc video said this subclass is based on the amethyst dragon, which is a psionic/INT based caster. That is probably why they chose INT for spellcasting

I think Charisma does a similar job and makes the knightly presence of this subclass easier to roleplay. I could be wrong but that's just what I've thought
