Did you know that originally, we didn't have any of the Dorothy lying awake at night, Becky talking to her, or Becky summoning Walky? Just cutting straight to Dorothy waking up from a nightmare beside Walky in his bed, somehow. What.
Like, what was I even thinking. That whole sequence was incredibly important, and it almost wasn't even there. Instead, this speedrun of what became May 22/23's strips, which removes a lot of the meat.
I feel bad showing this! Was I sick that day? What was going on???

Had David come to me with this shorter strip and expressed doubts, I might have hesitated to recommend replacing it. It does have a few advantages: if Dorothy gets through her anguish quicker, then Walky seems a bit less oblivious. And it implies that she went straight from tension with Joyce to sleeping with her actual boyfriend, which rhymes with the sexting subplot and is a valid way to go. Buuuuut in the end, the longer treatment has more to recommend it. It has greater emotional range from Dorothy, which sells her conflict better. It shows more of her dynamic with Walky, underlining the difficult choices she faces. And of course, it has a star turn from Becky, whose performative obnoxiousness can't mask her quiet determination that no one around her will ever be allowed to succumb to depression the way her mother did.
