It likely needs a fair bit of timing and to be in close distance. If the spell-form is already cast, then mana disruption wouldn't do much. In an outdoors fight, you are simply too far away. Mana disruption would be excellent for spell-swords.

How should any of us know? Your guess is as good as ours. It is a story, not science. :-) My guess would be it is very localized and limited in effect so it worked as a surprise in the inn, but wouldn’t work in the outdoor fight, especially when know in advance.

A question on an earlier chapter but why didn’t Mons use [Mana Disruption] against Pisces or Ceria. Also how could anyone possibly combat that spell once it’s been cast?
