I agree with Gabi escaping jail, that was pretty convenient, but how is Hange getting info out of Sannes an issue? She psychologically manipulated and tortured him, it’s perfectly believable and thematically consistent. You must not have payed much attention to Sannes’ plot line if you think it was convenient lol. As for Levi putting a thunder spear in Zeke I think you’re being obtuse. He just had to kill 30 of his soldiers, he’s incredibly emotional and not in a clear state of mind. On top of that he’s very illogical when it comes to Zeke because of his intense hatred for him. He also sees him as a coward, and basically makes a bad bet that Zeke wouldn’t want to die (something he later acknowledges as a mistake). In fact we see this multiple times, including when Levi actually *spoiler* kills Zeke. He’s driven by emotions, not logic. I really don’t see enough reason to call the writing of AOT ‘naive’. It does have its fair share of plot convenient moments and redundancies, but importantly you don’t tend to notice most of them straight away. The narrative elements work together so well that the holes or divots don’t distract you or subtract too much from the overall value of the experience. That’s what makes stories great. Virtually every narrative is ‘naive’ otherwise. In my opinion AOT doesn’t substantially deviate from the norm of any other work of fiction. Also, the only time Isayama didn’t live up to the ideas of attack on titan was really in the last two chapters or so. Literally everything up until then is mostly cohesive and well thought out. Not trying to be an a-hole, I do think there’s PLENTY to criticise about AOT (as is the case with anything), I just think your points aren’t great.

There is some weird bullshit convenient stuf in attack on titan, and Levi putting a thunderspear to Zeke to keep him in check is one of the worst. There was no need for that, he just endangered himself needlessly. I remembered reading this when it came out as a scan and everyone pretty much agreed to that. Isayama can write some crazy stuf but I feel like he easily falls for plot conveniences. One of the weakest points of Attack On Titan. Think about how Gabi and Falco escaped from jail, or how Hange got stuf out of Sannes. Just such fucking stupid resolutions. Then again this naivety in the writing of Attack On Titan is also a reason why people love the show so much, myself included. Problem is that the final arc of Attack On Titan has this use of convenient resolutions pushed to such an extreme that it becomes completely ridiculous and destroyes all suspension of disbelief. Isayama is a man of ideas but sometimes his writing just doesn't live up to the genius of those ideas, and that's a shame.

-There's an interesting hidden meaning in Floch's name. His full name is Floch Forster Forster (German): someone who lived and worked in a forest. Last episode (Children of the Forest) establishes the idea that humanity is trapped in a "forest" where we believe the only solution to our problems is death and violence, leading to endless conflict. Sasha's father argues that it's the duty of the adults to get the next generation out of the forest, as that's the only way to prevent history from continuing to repeat itself. In this episode, we see Floch dragging the next generation into the "forest" by forcing the new cadets to brutally attack a defenseless soldier. Unnecessary violence is made a requirement, and those that refuse are punished with imprisonment. "Savagery" is a fitting title for this episode. The Eldian Empire had a long history of brutal acts of death and destruction. The Yeagerists are now following in their footsteps, repeating the same mistakes.

They didn't want to take the founder from eren until after he attacked marley. OG plan was a sample of the rumbling to scare the world and buy enough time to catch up to other nations technologically so that the rumbling was no longer necessary, while making sure to pass the beast titan down the royal bloodline so the rumbling can happen if it needs to.
Blue John
It's not really about saving the world. It's about not giving rise to more eldian generations who will suffer the anguish of being a titan people (like what they're going thru now). Some want to kill them, some want to exploit them. Their lives tend to royally suck.
Blue John
I get the point about cruelty due to human nature. But think about it, a cruel human with a devastating weapon is a lot worse than one without. Just like how a crazy nation with titan weapons will wreak much more destruction than one without. Yes war will always happen. But do you think a war with stick and stones as weapons will cause same damages as one using nuclear weapons.
JessW
I am not sure if you guys are super caught up with everything outside of the actual show but it’s been confirmed, Levi’s person is Erwin. You boys should check out the guidebooks!

Trying to apply morality in fiction to the real world is a ridiculous thing to do

Late comment: So the eldian governments agenda was to go with Zekes OG presented plan and pushed for Eren to give up the founding titan and have Historia inherit Zekes titan and for her to have offspring so they could have it under control right? I didnt quite understand that agenda.
Xaphyr
Zeke didn't trust Eren and he believed that Eren was the one choosing what happens. (Like Ksaver told him)
diego duffeler
the only thing i never understood was when they met before, why didn't they touch each other and carry out the euthanization plan then and there?
Helily
Yea, if it isn't the Eldians being the reason for global strife, humans will find another reason to kill each other and another group of people to commit genocide on
Helily
"Hopeful in ignorance" love that
locomojoboy
Screw “humanity.” Why should Eldians have to go extinct just to save a world that wants them all dead?!
Pony
in the scene where he's talking about how his wife killed herself and their kid, there's a plushie of a ram in the background, which was the form of his beast titan

Marley's defeat at Shiganshina shook the world. To Marley, and the world, the island is insignificant. It's just some penal colony of helpless, poor, crazy Eldians. No one thought that this pathetic prison colony of Paradis had ANY chance of fighting back against Marley. Marley sent their Warriors to retrieve the Founder's power and collect the island's resources for it's military value. They thought this Founding Titan power was keeping the people docile through King Fritz's will (Though, I guess only the Tyburs would know this, not Marley). No one knew that Grisha Jaeger had infiltrated the walls, and that he found the location of the Founding Titan and stole it. No one knew that he gave that power to his son. No one had knowledge that the people within the walls were developing technologies such as ODM Gear and Thunder Spears to perfect Titan killing. No one knew that the military would use Eren, their newfound Titan weapon, to fight back against their attackers. Eventually, the army of Paradis was led to Shiganshina in the hopes of finding information left behind by Grisha Jaeger, and for a final confrontation to reclaim their city against Marley's 4 Titan powers. Zeke was only pretending to be sided with Marley. In his mind, he was doing what he needed to do to get his hands on the Founder's power. Pretending to be fighting to give it to Marley, when in reality he wants it for his own plans to alter Eldian anatomy. He regrets that the people of Paradis are fighting back. He thinks they have been manipulated to fight a hopeless fight for the sake honor and to die for a greater purpose (Remember Erwin's conflict with himself calling himself a 'conman'?). No one is taking this uprising on Paradis seriously because their odds of success are so inconceivably low. Zeke's like "These people could have lived peacefully for the remainder of their lives, but instead they have been convinced to fight a hopeless war against Marley." So, Zeke thinks he is putting them out of their misery by throwing rocks at them. Zeke is doing what he needs to until he can get his hands on the Founder's power and make Eldians unable to have children - which he thinks will end the suffering of all Eldians. Zeke feels bad for these soldiers because, in everyone's mind, this tiny island has no hope against Marley, yet they are being led to slaughter. "It's bullshit (It's worth going back to that episode to hear Zeke's monologue)." No one imagined that Paradis would win. Led by Erwin, Levi, Armin, Eren, Mikasa, and many others, Paradis won. They stole Marley's greatest weapon - the Colossal Titan. They resealed their walls and pushed back the invading force. They sent a message to Marley and the world, and transformed their island from an "Eldian penal colony" to an independent nation. This shook the world. People around the world learned the news that the tiny island of Eldians had defeated Marley (the greatest military power on the continent). "These people that once dominated the world are not docile anymore. They have grown powerful enough to win against the powerful nation of Marley. There has been a revolution on Paradis that has made the Eldian Empire a potential threat to the world once again." Now, the world is in a state of panic and will rally together to put down the threat of Paradis. The island is under dire threat from the world. That threat to the island is what is pressuring Eren and everyone to come up with some sort of plan for survival. On the surface, the plan is to launch the limited rumbling to dissuade an attack while Paradis modernizes their technology and negotiates with other nations for peace. In secret, the two brothers have their own plans for the Founder's power. Zeke wants it to make Eldians, and Titan powers, die out from the world. Eren wants it to unleash every Titan in the walls to kill every human, thus guaranteeing the survival of his people (Manga readers will know that there is yet more complexity to all this). Those are my thoughts that came to me while watching this reaction. I love thinking about this show! It's so well-crafted by Isayama <3

This is such an important episode to the series. When new information is revealed, this show really forces you to go back to previous seasons and reexamine past events. This is how I understand events when looking back in hindsight: (Read replies)
Jag_227
Everyone says Reiner is the same as Eren, which is true in a lot of ways. But, I think Eren and Zeke, the two brothers, are even greater reflections of each other. Both were born into positions to carry he hopes of their people, against their choice. Both are scheming to rid the world of the problem of Titans. Both are under the pressure to be the savior of their people.
DeeHasApples
Yeah I think I remember reading that that Grice is their uncle. He didn't even get turned into a titan, as he was the one used to lure the Titans away from the port :(
Mizzy
It is fascinating to see who immediately agrees with eugenics and why.
Jeffrey
Ha. I just realized that Dr. Ksaver's beast titan was revealed in that scene when he was talking about his family.
Jeffrey
You thought Historia's backstory was sad and cruel. You thought Grisha's backstory was sad and cruel. Zeke: Hold my beer.

according to wiki, Levis awakening was when his mom died

@wulfheart101 yep, that's why I said loyal because they choose to be protective over them :)

Oh, I've added "feral" and "menace" to my daily vocab because of you guys lol Also... I've gone through so much popcorn because of Brig XD XD

I remember hearing Zekes plan and cheering for it. It's probably one of the best options they have.

Also, Levi's loyalty to Erwin has a completely different nature than Mikasa's to Eren – Mikasa is driven by love, but it's far beyond reason. I hardly doubt Levi involuntarily jumped if anyone wanted to punch Erwin, but who knows. In short, even if the Ackerbond was real, Erwin cannot really be called Levi's 'host'. Same goes to Kenny and Uri. But that's just the way I see it, I just never felt Levi and Erwin's friendship was even remotely similar to Mikasa's obsession with Eren.
David Herrera
That's a great point of view, even withouth Eldians there will always be an enemy and it's human nature. Like my man Brian Fargo would say: War, war never changes.
Nevolen
Cannon can’t keep getting away with this 😂 bro is Akinator
iaani
The cruelty inflicted by titans are still mostly human decisions and ridding the world of titans isn't going to change that cruelty. It's a human story after all, like the The Last of Us in a way.

He did amazing! The matches he played all were very close, and his singles match he barely lost and his doubles match he was winning but then the other school won the overall score so they cut it short, so he practically won that.

LOVE THIS HAHA
Studio Geck
Hahahaha love this. TBH we use feral for sooo many different things lol. We use it in the literal sense, or just for anything crazy. But ya i could sit here all day and list the different ways we use it😂 like keyton said, its just a substitute word that the context of what we are saying changes it. This answer literally doesnt help at all I think but I tried haha

Now I want to hear from the man himself. I hope he replies.
Sean Carroll
i think he let his dislike for Zeke cloud his thoughts on his backstory, he looked annoyed the whole episode
Julia Perez
You guys have probably already picked this up by now based on the Zeke conment in 4x28, but the Ackerman “host” thing was a complete fake-out by Eren. Isayama’s come out and confirmed that the Ackermans’ strong bonds (Mikasa to Eren, Levi to Erwin, and Kenny to Uri) are just a part of their personalities and not biological or a part of their ancestry: https://www.cbr.com/attack-on-titan-ackerbond-explained/
Wulfheart
A strong sense of loyalty doesn't make someone a slave though. I feel all of those examples are out of respect rather than them being forced.
Megan Kirby
I love this season and I think it’s my favorite, but sometimes watching it was difficult. It gets so depressing and dark, but i think it’s definitely the most meaningful and well written season.
Megan Kirby
In case you missed it, cause I did at first, falco is a member of the Grice family. The grice family was part of the eldian restorationist movement with grisha and Dina, and you see grisha talking to a grice in this episode. It’s briefly mentioned in episode 4, but that’s why falco and colt became warriors, to protect their family from further persecution for their “past misdeeds”
manderlee
Carter: “don’t tell me Levi’s dead dude…” McKay: 😏
Paul Durbin
Great "Dat ain't falco" drop.

feral means beautiful/pleasant

yeah, ignorance is bliss. it’s still crazy to me how seasons 1-3 gradually developed and then came s4. shocking and confusing but its connection to the previous seasons shows how the story was done meticulously. I can’t praise it enough.
matt
Now we know zeke was the savior humans needed, given he was evil, but after watching the latest ep that just released, i think eren is totally crazy.
C E.
if I remember correctly, they’re saving all of the opening and ending songs from s1-s4 for a reaction vid after finishing aot (at least until the latest one)
kiiturii
at first it was to avoid any type of spoilers, and then they decided they'll react to all the openings after they've finished the show and that's why they're not watching even this one that doesn't have any spoilers in it
kiiturii
really not that hard to figure out lol
Owen
yes
Cheryl Toh
actl is there any reason why the cannon and carter avoid watching the opening song? wondered if i had missed their explanation from the start of the season
nomorepartiezz
they say Ackermanns always acted as the enforcers/guards/right hand man for the royal family which is the exact role all of those characters had
nomorepartiezz
tru
keyton bush
You’re right, though they’ve used it in other ways too, so I just listen for the context and infer.
keyton bush
It’s a catch-all word. It can mean vicious, cruel, strange, ice-cold serious, or anything else. Just gotta listen for context.
Phil Kessel
Barbaric, beastly, uncouth, no manners, without regard to social norms
Zechree
someone could tell you but that would just be feral
Josh Ashford
No, I'm pretty sure it's a different person. Also he'd be too old at that point
Zachary Feller
I've been watching these guys since day 1 and I still don't know what they mean when they say "feral".
jblakk
Always wondered that but its never confirmed either way. If that was him, then he had a long life prior to becoming a warrior. A LOOONG life.
ssj4rit
At the end of S3 Ep 19 (post credit scene), does Grisha bump into Mr. Ksaver when he’s running out from home?
Wulfheart
LETS GO!!!! I've been waiting all day for this!!

I'm feral, Let's gooooo

Cannon's mental state throughout this is just so rough to watch. We were all there man. Also the "MR KSAVER! I HOPE YOU'RE STILL WATCHING" damn near made me cry on first watch. The voice acting in Season 4 is on a whole other level in the sub.
Melizé
McKay went from 3rd to 4th and almost giving up to then getting 1st place, this is character development haha! 🎉🎉
lexi
Isayama already confirmed that for the Ackerman's its Mikasa = Eren, Levi = Erwin, & Kenny = Uri. I don't think their "host" is the first person to activate their instincts, just someone they choose to follow.
T. Law
I wanted to hear Cannon's thoughts on Zeke after this episode, it's a shame he said nothing!!
T. Law
Thank you Mckay for that gaze at the end. I felt he was saying "justice for Zeke."
Pocketsleuth
The way I see it, every Ackerman we've seen has been loyal to someone. Mikasa -> Eren, Levi -> Erwin, Kenny -> Uri
