What’s really tragic about Naomi’s death is that it’s (partly) caused by a primal human need: the desire for recognition. Her own fiancé dismissed her thoughts, worries, and capability to add to the Kira case which made her greed for someone’s attention who would acknowledge her, and that person used that feeling to earn her trust and turned out to be her killer.

It is not that complicated for now but the more the series progresses, the more the small details matter. You can discuss as much as you want during the reaction, but I suggest you do it facing the screen. Since you guys are watching it on sub version, and obviously you don't understand Japanese by just listening, It would be a shame if you guys miss the important details because you are not looking at subs.

what i hate about light is how he taunts. he made sure ray saw his face before he died. and he revealed himself to naomi right before she died. even when she walked to her death he was teasing her "my father might respond now, wanna try and call" with the slight smirk.

I can see how Cannon doesn’t really gravitate towards the characters. I mean Light is literally the antagonist, L is weird (i had a crush on him as a teenager ngl lmao), and everyone else at this point are just background characters. I think that the more they get into the show, they’ll learn more about the characters. On a another note, I love this episode. It’s one of my favorites from the show and it had me on the edge the whole time. Poor Naomi got manipulated at the end. I was so sad for her

I consider early 2000s for anime like 2000 up until first couple years in 201x. But yeah regardless he was thirsted over a lot back then. Not sure if it’s the same intensity these days.

This was the episode that got me hooked to Death Note and made me binge the episodes on a school night (rip sleep). I get what Cannon is saying. When I rewatched Death Note, I realised I hardly remembered the majority of the cast. I wasn’t emotionally invested in the characters. I usually prefer character-driven stories over plot-driven ones, but I find myself rewatching Death Note more than I would most other series.

I agree. There are very few shows I can name that don’t fall off halfway through or near the end. It’s rare for series to be consistently good. I think that’s the reason why FMAB was MAL’s #1 anime for the longest time. Whether you think it’s a masterpiece or decent at best, I think most people agree that it was a solid show; consistent in quality and with little flaws.

I understand Cannon’s opinion about DN. I read the manga live and it really was a great story and plot driven but honestly I didn’t even finish it towards the end. When the anime came out I remember I didn’t like the adaptation, probably only the opening. Actually disappointed it won the poll. 😫 It’s like mystery novels that don’t translate well to movies.

After watching how bad many shows have fallen off the past 15 years I feel people are less harsh on DN now lol. The fall is not nearly as bad as all the critically acclaimed shows these days after their first few seasons lol. I’d argue it’s not even bad at all, it’s like the difference between a 9-10/10 show and a 8/10 show The manga is also pretty good throughout, it’s just the anime after a certain point started doubling the pace. The first 25 episodes adapt like 59 chapters, then the next 12 adapt 50 chapters. So a lot of cool stuff and characters were cut. Had it been adapted properly I’d say it’s pretty consistent throughout. One thing the anime does spectacular is that last episode. Better than the manga imo.

I completely agree with cannon in the intro this series has a great story but I’m not really drawn to any characters. I can recognize it’s impact but I’m not a huge DN enthusiast.
