Imo WIT s1 was peak. Even WIT couldn’t really match that quality fully in 2 and 3, only in short spurts (Levi vs Kenny, Levi vs beast, etc). CGI colossal in s2/s3 was atrocious. MAPPA s4p1 was a step down, but still good. S4p2 saw improvement with the cgi. S4p3p1 (lmao) was actually really close to peak WIT. I’m excited for s4p3p2. Also say what you will but MAPPA CGI colossal clears WIT CGI colossal.

Woah hang on I agree with Huxley but Wit was way better in my opinion. Mappa was fine and is great in most of its shows but acting like it was better is a bit much. It didn't ruin the show and I'm not gonna cry about it, but critiquing the show, Wit's animation is just better, you can make valid excuses for why that is but let's not go crazy here

Btw, I believe this is the latest interview (March 30th) with the creator of Vinland Saga, Makoto Yukimura: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8eKBtO5tUo. In the interview, he talks about becoming a manga artist, the relationship between Askeladd and Thorfinn, etc. There are no spoilers beyond the season 1 story (War arc) other than Yukimura briefly talking about a character from season 2. There's also a funny part in the interview where the interviewer starts talking about his social media presence on Twitter, and apparently, Yukimura didn't know that GOAT stands for "Greatest Of All Time," and he didn't understand why people were sending him pictures of goats on Twitter.

When Mappa is on their A game I think they do a better job than Wit but unfortunately the quality of Mappa's animation is up and down like an actual roller coaster. Some scenes look incredible in season 2, and then some of it looks absolutely buns to the point where it negatively affects the viewing experience and I wish I was reading the manga instead. I miss Wit for Vinland even though Mappa is overall my fav studio. Apologies for the brutal honesty lol. Alsooo soundtrack appreciation for Somewhere Else, Intertwined and Troll. Extremely underrated I feel

yeah, as other people have said, vinland saga season 2 is probably mappas prettiest anime they've ever done. They do just as good, if not better honestly with the animation. There is no CG, and the animation is flawless and smooth.

Don’t worry about the animation… they actually have done an amazing job at keeping the integrity and style of the show. The colors have been insane. You guys will love it!! Also, S2 is giving GOT dialogue and character development. It’s very slow paced but that doesn’t mean it’s boring. There are fights though just not as much as S1. All in all S2 has been just as good as S1 but for VERY different reasons. Idk it’s fucking beautiful.

Dont worry, Mappa wont fuck up like they did with AOT. There is not gonna have crazy CGI either. As seaosn2 doesn't have a lot of fast paced motion to animate they didn't need to throw CGI to speed things up. VInland seaon 2 is my favorite MAPPA production, actually its the ONLY mappa production that i like. I dont like anything they put out but Vinland 2 was actually good. They tried to retain Wit's style the most possible. And more importantly there isn't that ugly CGI models of the titans in AOT every 5 minutes

King Sweyn's face was hidden so it would generate impact whenever Askeladd saw his face. Askellad's special ability to judge a character by the look on his face was being kinda teased whenever they hid the King's face from the audience. The first time we see his face is when Askeladd does too.

Cannon don't worry, the transition to Mappa isn't as jarring as it was with AOT. Also, I don't think they've used CGI at all, or not that I could tell unlike with AOT. Season 2 is fr goated, starts off slow though

Mappa is doing amazing with season 2, Shohei Yabuta is still the director and some other people in the crew are the same as season 1. Maaaan I love Vinland Saga, it's easily one of my favorite anime-manga ever. Season 2 is so good that I couldn't wait and read the whole manga and I can say that it gets better and better. The manga is still ongoing but it's on the final arc (tho who knows how long the arc will be xd) at least that's what Yukimura (the author) said.

I loved season 1 and gave it a 9.3 out of 10 but I think season 2 so far is 10 out 10. If ending of season 2 is done right it might be the reason Vinland Saga will make it to my top 5 animes of all time for me! I love character driven plots and the character's inner battles/flaws/strengths that create their personalities/motives. Therefore, season 2 might not be for everyone, it just depends on what people prefer. Super curious about yalls reaction to season 2 and how you guys will perceive it! Also, a well known AOT rector named filmbuff made me love season 2 of vinland saga even more than I already do because he analyzes and highlights a lot things I missed while watching it the first time.

It is lowkey farm simulator on the next season for a while but all the build up just makes it all worth it towards the end. Vinland saga has such a unique vibe it’s unlike any anime I’ve ever seen it’s hard to put it into words other than what you guys said, “real”. Like it’s the type of real where you can meet these characters during the first season and then they come back in season 2 three years later and it’s like seeing an old friend from high school. You recognize them but certain things are different than the image you had of them in your head, kindof how they change animation studios. It’s just such a unique feel that no other anime has done except maybe AOT. But for AOT the fact that it has the fictional stuff with the titans it just doesn’t have the same feel as V.S. I love AOT more but V.S has a very unique feel to it. Thank you for attending my Ted talk

@szeth also to be very honest, I did like VS on my first watch but I would have put it at probably a 7/10. After rewatching on my own and with other reactors (like the goat FilmBuff 🤴) it immediately became an 11/10 for me so I think rewatching when its all out again later will make the experience much better because no waiting.

@kiiturii That is just not true, I have watched plenty of shows weekly, JJK, AoT s4, Oshi no ko, Hell's Paradise, Spy x Family, Bluelock, Eminence in Shadow, Chainsaw Man, and I could go on. All of those shows I had the feeling of, "oh that was so good can't wait to see what happens next", whereas Vinland Saga the first half was the same feeling, but the second half it changed to, "what did I just watch did anything really happen" Yes stuff happened ofc but to me it was things that weren't of much relevance. We can disagree and again it is just an opinion, but it definitely is not just because I can't deal with something being "pushed back". I didn't bring that up to be the only reason why I feel that way but to just admit any possible bias I could think of. It definitely isn't the only reason

I love season 2, more than season 1, but it's not for everyone. I think it's about trying to figure out what kind of future thorfin can have, season one doesn't put an emphasis on it, but he killed hundreds of innocent people. Can someone like that find happiness? Does he deserve it? It's a beautiful story, but it's a far cry for the action of season 1

Askeladd is a true definition of Kingmaker. By killing the former king and giving advantage to Canute by killing him, the power has literally shifted. All throughout the scene, I wanted to get my chessboard and recreate it to see how it would work. When King Sweyn stepped right infront of Askeladd, it was already a checkmate. 😂

MY OPINION ON S2: Ik this is a hot take and I just want to say we can disagree it is only my opinion, but the first half of s2 I was 100% with it and was confused by people not liking it even though the pacing slows down compared to s1, but the second half so far has been kind of a let down. Every episode I feel like something is about to happen and then it gets pushed back an episode and it takes way more time on scenes than it needs to with parts that are anime original that seem like they needed to hit the 24 episode mark when it could easily be done in 22 or so. It just feels way too slow. I do think that I have to be fair in that I picked up the show as s2 started so the difference in pacing was multiplied by having to watch only 20 minutes a week and that if I had waited I would just have thought it was a bit slow but still liked it overall but I will never know

Don't worry boys, I too was worried of the animation studio change but MAPPA did Vinland Saga S2 justice! I believe a lot of important people that worked on the first season, worked on the 2nd season as well. So characters don't look jarringly different & off putting like how it was from the transition of S3 to S4 of AOT. I'm a Day 1 WIT STUDIO PP rider myself, but i gotta say, MAPPA did just as good of a job as WIT STUDIO for Vinland Saga :) IMO
