Gardor

Alright but I'm trying to say, putting her in the "leadership under supervision" position seems like something done for her benefit, "hey let's get the kid some training on how to be a good squad leader." It doesn't seem like it'd help keep the mercenaries alive, nor does it seem like it'd help accomplish the mission. Breaking into the opera house is like, her main job, why would Captain Roger throw another variable into the plan? Captain Roger's priorities should be keeping his soldiers alive and accomplishing the mission, not necessarily in that order, I don't know that changing things up at this juncture is a very good decision. A drone comes over the dune, Shiro panics and gives some bad orders, everyone dies. The mission is a failure, cuz now they can't break into the opera house, and people have died. Even if Shiro was just slightly more headstrong or egotistical, and didn't have that moment of clarity where she realized she was projecting onto Hampton, what if she sent a member of her squad back solo and they got ambushed and killed? It seemed like it was pretty close to that, and I'm not sure what benefit the Captain gets out of putting an amateur in charge of a squad. They already accomplished every mission they had, with Hampton in charge and Shiro being a consultant, now that they're playing in the big leagues Roger switches it up? Just nagging to nag at this point, I'm sure whatever you have planned is great, and it's not as if we have a character profile for Captain Roger. I bet the risk-reward calculations will all make sense once we've got more information.

Not wanting to risk Red-Six would be the reason she only became the temporary leader while breaking into the building, which she has expertise in and has backup extremely close considering it borders the HQ, and not previously in the arc. And the leadership is a bit closer to leadership under supervision, as shown by Hampton interjecting at the end there.

Gardor

Alright whatever the reasons behind Shiro's promotion end up being, whether they're inter company politics or a trial by fire before they extend a contract her way or I dunno to ferret out a mole, is it worth risking the whole of squad six? If their amateur leader tells them to zig when they should zag, and they all end up dead? Does captain Roger play fast and loose with the lives of his soldiers? Guess I'll find out sorry for rushing ya

The difference is that Hampton would make the final call and do all the tactics stuff. Now Shiro would have to make the final call and all the planning outside of coming up with ideas. And it's not a more effective group dynamic in the slightest. I'll get into it a bit in the next chapter, but there are a few reasons behind it.

Gardor

I'm confused about how her being in charge actually changes the functionality of the squad. Before, they were her bodyguards, and would defer to her technical expertise to accomplish whatever technology related mission they had. She came up with the plan to zip line to the radio station, and then listened to where she needed to go and when she was done. Now...what, putting her in charge means she can micromanage HOW they accomplish her goals? Before she'd say she needs to get to the roof, and Hampton would plan it out, and now she needs to figure out the tactics herself? Doesn't seem like a more effective group dynamic, and also doesn't seem like something a captain would do to his squad of mercenaries who already know how to function as a unit.
