Stuart Anderson

Oh doh, I completely forgot it disappears!

Lost Rain

Merlo, at least as far as she knows, sells fancy glass pieces with 'mystical powers'. Any sale is a good sale to her. Especially considering how little everything is worth in her shop outside of a few exceptions. The paint though probably could've been jacked up a couple hundred more, but it ended in a nice even thousand.

Lost Rain

Yes it would, but the canteen's liquids disappear after thirty minutes, with some exceptions. Its why she doesn't just go get some super potion and sell it ad Infinium. Its also why she still buys some fluids, like paint and AE3(gas basically).

Stuart Anderson

Nice chapter! My only question is why did she buy so much paint? It’s liquid so the canteen should be able to duplicate it no?

Gardor

Oh but! Shouldn't the black market be more expensive? This is where people come to buy stuff that they can't buy legally or anywhere else, why would the criminal merchants give a fair price? I know cyberpunk is pretty big on how exploitative unfettered capitalism can be at the higher levels, just curious what the rationale is for these people selling stuff at a loss. I guess the argument could be made that anyone with money would also have the ability to buy stuff, so they've gotta sell at prices poor people can afford...

Gardor

Also, it's "better" for my particular taste, I have no idea if it's actually good for other people, please don't assume I have any idea what I'm talking about.

Gardor

I like that she might not immediately identify specifics or motivations, but she can identify broad generalizations about what the body language COULD mean. Seems like a happy medium between an omniscient all Charisma character and someone who has no idea what's going on, making a socially awkward kid with very little experience interpreting a very helpfull Skill.

Lost Rain

$40,000 for the metal printer, which would be required for making more advanced projects. She only has one that can print plastic parts, which was significantly cheaper. And then I think the hybrid was $80,000 or $60,000 I’m glad it was better. Your comment previously made me rethink how I’d been writing social interactions.

I like how money stays a driving factor/obstacle for her, especially in a cyberpunk world. Too often MCs get rich extremely quickly, and then can afford everything without needing to worry about it. Plus it creates a sort of consistent flow to gigs she takes and chapter plots. I'm sure eventually she'll get wealthier, but I hope that money stays a motivator for her for a while. Or at least, the "power scale" doesn't get too wonky in her mercantile dealings. It grounds the world building and doesn't make the cyberpunk economy seem arbitrary. Although, I do remember that her 3d printer was supposed to be $40,000 or something bought at a store, and she got it for $1,500 at the black market, which I thought was weird. Could be making those numbers up. Another thing I noticed this chapter was her using her Cues perk/skill...better, I guess. I had a whole argument planned out for how all her other system benefits are changing her character and actions, like her being tech savvy impacting her "dialogue options", and this chapter made all my whining unnecessary (compared to her not knowing highschoolers had crushes on her). Stuff like this was great to see: "Her expression was pensive, though her muscles were tensed slightly as if the look was forced to hide her actual expression"
