lol I really like the inquisitor

Gardor

Ok, so was there one corrupt person on a high table? And there's only one High Table?

Lost Rain

I wasn't super smitten with it either. My naming sense recently has been really off with this kind of stuff D: I changed it to the High Table being the plural group leading the Crusade and the High Lords being the individuals.

Is the Inquisitor some kinda luck dragon? or someone cursed with a seers insight... jeebus. he drinks to keep the visions away yadda yadda?

Gardor

Na see that's what I have a problem with, a "table" sits more than one person. There can be a "seat" at the "table", but i don't think "high table" should ever refer to one person. Or at least, i don't think it should be casually mentioned without being explicit. This is gotta be up there for my most persnickety complaining.

Arkus86

Concerning High Tables, I have the impression the singular position is called High Table, and there are multiple "seats" with the title of High Table (thus plural) forming a council of sorts - or rather, in corporate environment, more like the board of directors? So I suppose you can replace Hight Table with Director - there are multiple directors (Tables) on the board, each of which might have different responsibilities, but together forming the ruling body of the Crusade as a company.

Gardor

Mm, for the first one, I think it's cuz there are dropped words. "They had to, but I would not [have to]". "Had" is the past tense of "have", whereas "would" is the past tense of "will", so it's two different verbs being set against each other. Also, just pulling this out of my ass, but I kinda think "would" in this situation is conditional. My suggestion of "did not [have to]" has a lot of the same problems tho, so not really sure why this rubbed me the wrong way. So you think High Table is plural, used to denote a group of the upper shot callers, and that whole committee is corrupt? That's plausible I'll retract the nagging. The "one" and then the singular "table" made me think it was one dude serving on a council, didn't even occur to me that there may be more than one "High Table". Like, the "High Table of Finance" and the "High Table of R&D".

"And while they had to pull their punches, I wouldn’t." I don't know if there's a rule for it, but the way I see it, she emphasizes that she not only does not need to pull her punches, she is certainly not going to do so. "High Tables" is plural, so multiple positions, but only one of them, only one "High Table" (which maybe sounds a little strange, but is consistent with the naming) gave the traitorous order.

Gardor

"And while they had to pull their punches, I wouldn’t."-> I think it should be "i didnt". I'm sure there's a rule to justify it, but I'm basing this mostly off of instinct. I just don't think "wouldnt" is the negative of "had to". "I watched for a time in confusion, eying the lazy leaves fall all around me- A deep, slicing pain momentarily cut through Cold-Blooded, causing me to stagger back. One of the leaves had fallen onto my already wounded arm," -> no insight? Pretty inconvenient time to finally find the limits of what Insight can do. "due to an order from one of the High Tables" "The traitorous High Table had royally screwed over the entire district with his orders" -> a "high table" is a singular position? Everything in me tells me that's a plural proper noun. "High Chair" doesn't sound as official tho, considering it's a seat for babies.
