I don't agree with not staying in the campus. Besides, it IS the Watcher's SWORN duty to protect the members/direct-relatives of the Generasi expedition from blow-back. Renting some other space where it will take time for them to get to makes little sense. Why make life difficult for your defenders ? The university likely also has wards against Fae roads - Baelin likely took care of that. And probably some latent defenses against Divine magics like Interdiction. Most of these decisions in the last few chapters are based on very faulty logic and are making little sense.

But the Guide only knows where he is or where he has been, not where he will be. In order to set up the ambush that they did, they had to know where he would be. Until Alex got the map from the thieves guild, not even he knew where he would be going, and he didn't know which of the four locations he would be going to right then until moments before he was there. That's what has me looking at the thieves guild. The only way that the hidden church could have set up that ambush was if then KNEW that Alex would be showing up there, and Alex was only there because the head of the thieves guild gave him a map that explicitly told him to go to that location. That's very suspicious, and if I were Alex I'd be having a very intense discussion with the man who gave me that map.

Daniel is ŁØNE

yep, this isn't his 1st crisis and honestly, the whole Selina being attacked route isn't even something that is gonna be of concern in the near future so this overly panicked behavior he is exhibiting feels out of place and is doing more to irritate me than provide a feeling of tension to the story. If he was actually thinking critically, he would have considered this scenario from multiple angles to look for the best-case scenario. It feels like the author is intentionally making him overly emotional and panicky in this specific case to sow tension but it directly contradicts the persona of a battle-hardened general who is capable enough to outthink and outplay his enemies that he has been crafting for Alex since the story began. Alex is acting like this is the 1st ever crisis he has experienced and is throwing a lot of his "proper wizard" training out the window and it's pissing me off. It actually feels even worse since the threat that is causing this panic isn't even something that is gonna be an issue for a decent while if ever so he has more than enough room to sort his thoughts before making thoughtless decisions. I really want to get into the mindset to enjoy the arc the author is setting up but it feels too shoehorned in.

I never suspected the thieves guild of working with the church. I honestly think the Guide is able to track him. He did know he was in the empire before he was even working with the church.

Awesome chapter

Julien Fellegara

Guy, they can protect him and his family thrice over. And they would have a lot to earn from this. And Alex could protect himself and his family whatever the price, it's worth it.

As nice as it is for characters to be deeply human in their foibles, that trend can be problematic when those characters are set up as as talented thinkers and problem solvers who are extremely capable under pressure. For Alex in particular, as someone who's supposedly worthy the of the mark of the general, it feels like he's being artificially dumbed down in order to provide a bunch of angsty back and forth. He spent a whole bunch of time thinking after they got to Merzhin and the heroes. It seems pretty reasonable to assume that his ability to consider the angles would have been able to consider all of the angles.

Raivshard

He said earlier that he figured something out, but who isn't able to achieve that same deep level of connection. Seems more likely it'll just be a jump in power in that regard until he finds more info in the sanctum

Raivshard

Seems pretty reasonable to assume they would take a dim view of armed attackers invading their city and targeting the family of one of their favorite money makers and influencers. Additionally, they were perfectly fine with threatening to annihilate Thameland's armies for being jerks about trying to extradite him.

The council probably would want to prevent a high profile terrorist attack from a foreign country taking place in a bakery. Especially after the country has had recent demon terrorism.

I got through this chapter and all I can think is "Finally." These past few chapters feel like they can be condensed and combined.

The council sees Alex as a way to make money that does not mean they will help. So that is not the best move or smart. It is like saying I am more if risk to keep around just let the church have me. Now if he ask Rom how has a back ground that would help far more then anything. I don't Think Alex will do that.

Could anyone tell me the chapter where the Lu family can back to Generasi, I feel like I skipped over that part, I don’t remember if Alex told Theresa’s parents about their engagement or made it official with them.

FeyOne

I'm waiting for Alex to ask the question about how the Hidden Church knew where to set up that ambush.... It's one thing for them to know where he's been, but knowing where he's going to be? Knowing where he is going to be with enough advanced warning for them to set up their trap? That question only has one answer, and it leads right back to the same person who gave Alex the map he's using to look for the Sanctum. I'll be honest, I'm very much looking forward to the surprise that Alex's reappearance and questioning is likely to cause.

Julien Fellegara

Sometime Alex is just that dumb. Uldar priest invading a bakery? THAT would be stupid. 😅 Why does he not ask for help from the council? They are powerfull, and willing to help him. THAT would be a smart move.

Decide

I’m eager to see if Alex managed to keep the level of skill he had with Hannah’s power while dying.

Delaney Manders

I was expecting Selina to stay with Khalik’s parents - to learn from his mother in a kingdom far away and in a literal palace.

Bob Bryan

Wait alex Is just going to find the sanctum to change the mark. He can get stronger back at the school or anywhere really. Then jump the crazies and fairy(s) with everyone. He's trying to be a general not the solo hero. Plus everyone axing these guys gets everyone working together and finishing the ravisher once and for all.
