It’s interesting how isolationist he is. He won’t ask anyone for help. Generasi should be right over the water, and I’m sure he met plenty of other people and forces in his travels.

Scott Schluter

There are some real psychopaths in this comment section.

LongtailedOne

No you are not a villain, but I think you are a bit Americanized.. Uldar was simply afraid of dying, just as a mortal would be. That he got desperate instead of accepting his fate because his past accomplishments, because of 'might makes right', makes him a villain. A gracious god would let his flock be free, he was an upstart that misused and misguided his people to his own gain, to achieve and hold divinity. I agree what another comment says, a borrowed power is just that, Uldar simply stopped gaining power himself and started to depend on others to feed him just because he was what he was. Smiting people because they lost faith in him after a few generations, because he had become a recluse that rarely showed his divinity, because he was consumed with his own problem.... This comment is a bit on the fly, and I would love to expand on it, but don't have time right now. You don't beat your wife because she doesn't love you anymore, you check to see what you are doing wrong...

Lot Nineaitch

He could have simply revealed his weakness, told a story of his heroics and asked for his people to help him by praying for his recovery. It is correct that he was simply arrogant, and also that he risked his own life for his own purposes in the first place. The poison does however slowly remove his memory and the original Uldar seems like he was partly subverted by his Fey friend and partly corrupted by losing the context of a mortal. The younger generations didn't know he was even real, and that's because of his own arrogance in hiding the problem in the first place.

SwiftFate

This is why Baelin is such a boss. Power that is not your own, is worthless. To rely on worship, was Uldar's biggest flaw. I don't even blame him for the decision he made. Survival at any cost. I'd do the same. But to rely on something as fleeting as worship is pathetic. Not that he knew any better of course..But is what it is

Orion1024

I must be a villain too… I mean, the people were being jerks for not worshipping him despite all he provided them. He took the wound that was slowly killing him while *defending them*, and they only had to believe in him to pay him back and allow him a chance at survival. Add to that that him being a benevolent god doesn’t seem to be the norm in this world and he was shielding them from a lot of stuff just by being there. I won’t lie, I think I would have done the same thing in Uldar place. I wouldn’t have inflicted this on people who didn’t owe me anything, but he built a safe haven for the Thamish people to prosper into. Every comfort they had has been provided and protected by his work. There is no such thing as a free lunch… and them not paying was killing him !

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Monadologist

Okay, so it was basically exactly what we thought all along.

Kawa

Nice to be explicitly proven right finally! I suspected back in the travellers cave, and was sure during Baelins lecture on the gods. I had been sure for so long that I thought it was too obvious to be true. But no! The Ravener and heroes were indeed created as a faith generation tool, just as I first said way back in nearly the beginning of the book. Ah vindication, is so sweet! More chapters please, good author!

Travis Fischer

I'm all but certain it is. Especially since it had been referenced multiple times.

Owen Kaz

The real question at this point is, how did he die? He either died suddenly somehow, as the faith has certainly been going strong for ages, or the poison was made worse. He certainly never repented for his misdeeds.

FauxPraetor

I wonder if it's somehow related to the General's Folly thing the secret church talked about. Cain, was it?

Julien Fellegara

Can't blame him. We see that with a life span of our. I don't know how i would act after thousands of years spent poisoned.

Adunn

I kind of don’t blame him.

Decide

Now we'll finally find out why the Fool was created. Bet it has something to do with faith, the people, and how absolutely broken thr General is. Please don't let the explanation be interrupted tomorrow.

Bob Bryan

Here is the thing. What if the general didn't try to usurp Uldar but figured out what was going on and thought the only way to end this was to kill Uldar and stop the madness. Afterwards uldar made the mark into the fool. On one hand making it so no one could figure it out again. As well as mocking the general as they worship the villan who sends the plague and scourn the hero that tried to truly save then

Kyle Hunter

That was puntastic!

Bob Bryan

It's stereotypical because it is true. Why assume God's would be any different than corrupt human kings or other leaders. People always expect some grand reason and it's always the same thing as everyone else. Vanity and greed.

George R

Loved this chapter

Lola

So, just as we thought, he nerfed the General so that the Heroes would be less effective at defeating the General. Maybe also to reduce the risk that the General would suspect Uldar of creating the Ravener. I wonder how many Generals became usurpers?

Bender

Oh,no. The tropey excuse is disappointing. I was expecting, nah praying to the Traveler for something new. I was hoping Aelfyn or someone would have pressurized Uldar into doing this. Spite for not being revered is just meh! Pretty much a stereotypical excuse for a bad god. I'd have been more happy if Uldar fell into truly evil ways rather than this. Alas!

Torasin

There are some on the covers of the books if you look them up on audible!

Is there any fan art of the series available? I’d like to see how the heroes, the cabal, Uldar and the rest of the cast would look like in AI format at the very least
