Just wanted to check in with a quick update and say thanks for being so understanding about the slower replies lately.

A couple of weeks ago, Sam and I went horse riding in a really remote village in the Eastern Cape. On our way back, my horse suddenly started bucking and I came off badly. We were stuck on a beach with no easy way out, and I couldnβt walkβmy ankle/leg was clearly broken as it was bent really weirdly.

Eventually someone managed to get to us from a beach access point, and I was carried a few hundred metres and through a river mouth to a car. From there, we had to drive back to our Airbnb to fetch our own vehicle (no hospitals nearby), then drove 2 hours to the closest place that could do X-rays.

They confirmed a bimalleolar fracture and a few other complications, gave me pain meds, and sent us on to a larger hospital 4 hours away to find the right surgeon.

I was admitted the next morning after a long fight with medical aid, operated on the next day, and stayed in hospital for a few days before heading home. The whole thing was rough and left me pretty shaken. The doctors have made it clear itβs a serious injury, and there was some nerve damage during surgeryβIβve lost some feeling in part of my foot. Weβre hoping that returns, but itβs uncertain.

The good news is that Iβm improving steadily. Thereβs no sign of infection, and Iβve just started physio. Iβm cleared to train upper body again, and Iβm staying on top of my rehab and movement routine. Iβve also been using the time to read a lot and stay on track with my usual study stuff.
